SUBLOW

Bass: An Element of Gut Feeling.

As the deep frequencies of the audio reinforcement specter are fundamental for each musical expression the development of the subwoofer demands GAE’s utmost attention.

GAE develops professional subwoofers always following the same intentions:

·    optimization of the efficiency/bandwidth-proportion and the damping-characteristics
·    selection of the best LF-loudspeakers – under mechanic as well as acoustic aspects
·    convenient handling and high compatibility to all GAE fullrange-systems
·    perfect acoustic characteristics supported by digital controllers of the latest generation
·    flexible opportunities of combination due to a setting-data-base for modern digital system controllers

GAE BR12GAE BR12

GAE BR12 The GAE BR12 is a compact sub bass-system ideally suited to the smaller full range loudspeakers of the System- and ProStage-series. Because of it’s small and compact enclosure and the unobtrusive design this system is predestined for all kinds of installation.

Multimodal connection-possibilities allow the application of various amplifier-concepts and thereby yield a large variability not only concerning the choice of the amplifier but also the positioning.
The BR12 is loaded with a special 12’’ long excursion cone driver with two 4’’ high performance voice coils and optimized low frequency parameters. This offers different sound engineering possibilities and impedance terminations. The bass reflex construction with an opposed 12’’ passive membrane doesn’t need additional tunnel volume for which reason the enclosure could be designed optically small. GAE BR12
The multi-layered, birch-ply enclosure is sealed with a black structure varnish by standard. Different RAL colours are available. The loudspeaker’s baffles and their components are protected by a solid metal front grill which is covered with an opaque acoustic foam.

Connection alternatives:

stereo input, 2x 4 ohms input impedance
mono input, serial, 8 ohms input impedance
mono input, parallel, 2 ohms input impedance

The BR12 includes a double voice coil loudspeaker with two 4 ohms voice coils (right side) and a passive membrane loudspeaker on the left side.

1) Stereo mode: Each voice coil is connected to one of the two Speakon input connectors, which are wired 1+/1-. A two channel amplifier is now loaded with 4 ohms to each channel.
2) Mono mode: Both voice coils are connected in serial mode. For this a special Speakon adaptor with a wire bridge between 2+/2- is inserted to one of the input connectors. The remaining input connector is connected with a Speakon plug, wired to 2+/2-. This modus achieves an 8 ohms loading, which for example can be served by a bridged amplifier.
3) 2 ohms mode: Both input cables will be connected to parallel mode, thus provides a 2 ohms impedance to load modern amplifiers in a maximum way.

A wiring diagram is printed on the connector panel to describe the three possible modes. Various positioning of the BR12 (i.e. passive membrane in direction of a wall corner) provides different sound capabilities in respect to requirement and taste.

Characteristics:

·    subwoofer to supply the smaller loudspeakers of the System- and ProStage-series
·    extremely good power/size-ratio
·    distinguished but discrete enclosure design
·    manifold connection possibilities
·    incorporates 12” long excursion double voice coil cone driver
·    extended frequency response from 37Hz – 250Hz (-3dB)

GAE ETAMAX "h-max"GAE EtaMax

GAE EtaMax GAE’s uncompromising bass horn construction is called ETAMAX. It allows the reproduction of low frequencies with a minimum distortion and high sound pressure levels. State-of-the-art simulation programs and elaborated enclosures are the basis for the optimized horn contour and its folding. By the help of the backwards enclosure-chamber the parameters of the 18’’ driver are exactly adjusted to the acoustic situation of the pressure chamber and the sound conduction. The acoustical resistance thus obtained damps the driver optimally and produces a frequency specter largely expanded to the low specter without bothersome resonances.

By stacking several ETAMAXs this effect is redoubled, leading to a major horn construction unsurpassed in sound and power. ETAMAX reproduces low frequencies exactly, powerfully and with noticeable directivity. It is especially apt to back up far-ranging sound systems (as for instance GAE’s WaveLine) in the bass range.

The particular economy of this bass horn construction becomes apparent with big sound engineering challenges as the usual number of high power amplifiers can be drastically reduced. The operation of an "ideal" 30 Hz horn (6 pieces of ETAMAX) with a total impedance of 2x 2.7 ohms and an appropriate 2 channel amplifier is highly economic. As the complex parts of the impedance virtually vanish into thin air such an application offers a perfect resistance to the amplifier.
The toll taken by these special ETAMAX construction-characteristics rests with its dimensions, but the ingenious positioning of the 10 handholds simplifies the handling. Aluminum fixing bolts in the top and the bottom of the enclosure close to its back guarantee a save stacking. The enclosure is sumptuously built of high quality multi-layered birch-ply and sealed with a black structure varnish by standard. Different RAL colours are available. The loudspeaker’s baffle and it’s components are protected by a solid metal front grill which is backed with an opaque acoustic foam.

Characteristics:

·    high performance bass horn for powerful sound engineering
·    mirror-symmetrically applicable enclosure construction for axially symmetric large horns
·    perfect enclosure design and stable mechanical processing for the hard touring routine
·    frequency response down to 30 Hz (-3dB) when ideally applied
